Two employees were lifting a 59-pound piece of steel plate into the engine room of a vessel. One of the employees, standing on the ground, lifted the plate up to the other and released it. While maneuvering the manlift closer to the barge, the manlift jerked in an upward fashion causing the employee’s head to be caught between the bottom of the barge and the top rail of the manlift. The employee sustained a fractured mandible and a subarachnoid hemorrhage. |
